Has Sweden lost its edge?

I failed to mention other bands due to being in a hurry to get to English class. Now that I'm back home, however...
I think Andromeda is a perfect example of this, for example, as is Vintersorg, Evergrey, Dark Tranquility (whatever you say about their latest album. may I point out that many good bands have a slow point, after which they pick back up?), Tenebre, Debase... and I personally think Iced Earth is getting better and I still think Thyrfing is worth a mention... just because of the constant novelty of Viking Metal.

Iced Earth is American. I have really enjoyed this band, though I sincerely dislike Horror Show, despite the wealth of talent on the album. Tenebrose, you mentioned Andromeda, and I have heard alot about them, but have yet to hear them. Comparisons and thoughts? Thanks!

I'm off course guilty of equating the Swedish metal with the Gothenburg sound... but I will check out some of the bands you mentioned Andromeda in particular.

They're American? That would explain their poor English. ;) I've read about them being Swedish, which struck me odd because they don't sound like it, but that just goes to prove, always triple check everything you read. Especially online.

Andromeda is a great little band. Very progressive. Absolutely amazing guitars... and experimenting with electronic sounds. They're definitely an interesting listen, but I have no idea what one could compare them to. They don't sound like anything I've ever heard before.

Yes, they are Swedes. With albums like Extension Of The Wish, In Search Of Truth, and Remedy Lane later this month, I think progressive metal may have replaced melodeath as Sweden's most impressive export...
btw, I completely disagree with anyone who says that Dark Tranquility and/or Katatonia has lost it...

Yeah, Sweden has lost its sharpest edge. Now it's time for Finland.

Heheh, don't take this too seriously, Swedes, I'm just entertaining myself. :p

Stop humping the laser, Orchid, you're starting to get dillusional. ;)

If you mean delusional... why is that? Finland might have some cool upcoming bands

Ay. I'm not particularly good with spelling right after I get out of bed.

For that matter, it was a joke. From what I've seen of the Finnish metal scene, it's definitely promising.

Any good bands you can think of... without completely and painfully waking up?

IMO Finland has almost always been quite poor in the metal section. Only good bands I can think of the top of my head (which are active nowadays) are ...and Oceans, Viikate and Demigod. Also Wounds sounds quite promising. The situation was quite a bit better back in the early 90's.

Scenes an Countries or regions of origin are stupid. Is there anyone here besides the few that already stated that really do not care about this? otherwise i should destroy my band nothing good has ever came out of Mexico into a more widely known state and i will be forever prejudged by every goddamn metalhead and record label trapped into this stinking fucking town of loosers music. I would like to think i have a change of getting my stuff out there but watching threads like this makes me think my chances are slim to none.
