Has there ever been...

A female musician at ProgPower?

I have been attending since IV but spent some of that time partying when bands were playing.

Seen lots of lead singers. Lots of backup singers. But did we have any acts with a woman holding a guitar, playing a keyboard or behind a drumkit?

PP III
Persephone's Dream - played at a bar before the same venue was used for the showcase bands, I believe there were 3 girls in the band or more, seem to recall possibly bass, keys and violin?

I really want to say there was another band that played before PP5 that had a female musician, they were possibly from England.

How about if we expand the scope? Are there any outstanding female musicians in Metal (excluding vocalists)? I'm not suggesting there aren't, I'm just not aware of any. And by outstanding, I don't mean that they can hold their own. I mean that they deserve to mentioned among the truly elite guitar players, drummers, bass players, etc.

Lita Ford?

Most of the talented female musicians I know, don't play metal.

This is Nori Bucci. George (don't think he posts here?) told me about her when I asked about top female guitarists.

Then there's Lori Linstruth from Stream of Passion.

No, there aren't any. If we were talking about cooking, cleaning, or having babies, women dominate those fields.

Lita Ford?
Really? I always thought she was quite awful.

Agreed. I know there are talented female players outside the Metal realm. As for the links, I'll check them out after work. Thanks.

:err:

Give me another couple years and you can throw my name in among the elite.
Good luck. By the way, what do you play?

Zod...what about THE GREAT KAT??
I always thought she was more of a novelty act than a serious player. I know she was something of a child prodigy before entering the Metal world. But if we're reaching into the 80s, would you put her among the Top 10, 20, 50 players of that era? And if your not amongst the Top 50 players of your era, can you be considered an elite player?

Probably not, mainly due to metal historically being a male dominated genre, much like the sports world. That's not to say women aren't capable, just simply not enough of them have pursued the endeavor yet.

Agreed. There are female Classical guitar players who clearly have amazing chops. My point was never to suggest that women aren't capable. The original post simply got me thinking, and I was wondering if there was someone I was forgetting.

Jamie Myers from Hammer of Misfortune. She was the bass player and a singer for some songs. really talented and hot as hell to boot!!! Her vocals on the song "Trot out the Dead" are amazing.

A talented woman for sure. Love her vocals on the new Wolves in the Throne Room EP. She totally makes "A Looming Resonance" work. But would you call her an elite bass player?
