Indirectly through some interview by implying some album is good of course...

Guilty. I just bought Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness even though I'd only heard one song but with the knowledge that Mike mentioned it in some top 5 records list. Guess I'm a fanboy. Pretty cool album though..

No, but Steven Wilson's recommendations have guided me at the record store on several occassions.

I have bought one album partly because of Wilson's "recommendation" too. As for Mikael, not really, but I have taken a closer look at his influences.

Morbid Angel is a killer thats for sure but Mikael's tastes are so far away from me. Most of his recommendations will not appeal to me I think.

Jan Johansson - Jazz på Svenska

When he recommended that he said something like "you will thank me for it". All too true.

he made a bunch of comus references (which at the time i didn't get), then i read about him before melloboat, and how much he loved comus.
so intrigued i listened to the album to try it out, didnt really like it. months later i came back to it, and it had grown on me.

now i own it on vinyl, and listen to it all the time :)

Comus, Camel, Magma, These Trails...... I'm sure there are more that I discovered through Mike. I also have Steven Wilson to thank for lots of 70's prog and also electronic stuff like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher etc.

Until I heard Mike praising Porcupine Tree, for me it was just a band with an odd name XD. My "entrance" to 70's weird music is pretty much because of Opeth and PT. King Crimson, Popol Vuh, etc. Still a long way to go though.

The best thing about progressive is you never run out of bands with new sounds ;)

yes; porcupine tree mainly, and i've just discovered camel. i bought the comus record on the melloboat, tried listening to it several times, but the (male) singing puts me off so much :erk: great guitars though

it took a while for me to get into as well, now i love it, i cant explain why

guitars are amazing:notworthy:notworthy

Good on you!

Right now I'm listening to the Misfits "Evilive" Lp "You want it turned up or WHAT???"...I love Glenn Danzig although he's wierd.

To be honest, recently I re-discovered Abba. I grew up with them of course, but I never listened to them since I became a musician myself and it was...a revelation!
I listened to all their albums before I fell asleep EVERY night on the last Euro tour! It's just amazing!

It's some of the most well written, well arranged, well produced and just downright most fantastic songs I've ever heard! And they have always been there for me and NOW i discovered them.

If you dare to, get, "The album", "Arrival", "Voulez vous", "Super trouper" and the last one "The visitors". Some of it is very happy sounding so I can really understand if most of you will totally HATE it, but man, for me it was exactly what I needed. I'm more or less obsessed with them now.

SW always said he loved them so much and I kinda sneered at him, "Fucking poof" haha! But he was right, as always...

Do it!
Cheers
Mike
