Head in the control room and can in the live room

With a can you'll hardly make any sound at all, but with a cab on other hand... :D
Well, the best way is to make a connection built in the wall between the control and live rooms, but if you want some fast and 'ghetto' solution, you could get a speaker cable like 10-15m long and run it straight from control to the live room. This is possible because, unlike guitar cables, the speaker cable is capable of transferring signals over longer distances without any significant loss.

Yep, multicore isn't going to work for this as it's not designed for speaker level signals. Just get a nice chunky speaker cable of decent length and run it from the control room to the live room. I've got a nice wee hole in the wall where my stagebox comes through which is handy for this so I can have both live and control room doors shut.

nothing beats a miced up head and cab in the sound room while you jam in the control space. connection in wall would be the only way i would go in that instance

I do this a lot and can't see myself ever going back. I love being able to hear only what comes out of my monitors while testing sounds and tracking. I'm usually always controlling the transport anyway when recording my own stuff and when not I don't have to use talkback. I also find that it's handy being able to show artists waveforms not to mention that they don't feel so isolated being all alone while tracking.
Btw TheWinterSnow, is 50ft really ok? I ask because due to circumstances I have to now move my cab to an even further room and will prolly need a 50+ cable now. I think my current one was about 25 or so.
