Ahahahaha. You must be laughing like that but seriousy... I developed back and neck pains recently from doing it so much. I've been taking pain killer pills but they weren't effective so I have to go through physiotherapy now. You all be careful or you'll end up like me here.

yesm. i'm at pains nowadays to avoid headbanging if at all possible. i only have to mildly headbang for a minute or so before my neck starts getting sore and the vertibrae start swelling-up (at least that's what it feels like). on top of that, I get headaches very easily nowadays after I used to headbang a lot; all that violent jerking is guaranteed to be doing at least small amounts of damage to the brain.

so yeah, i avoid headbanging at all costs nowadays. besides, it's a shite form of dancing. ;o)

I hope it works-out ok for you though murai....man, when we first met on AG those years ago...you were headbanging like a mofo even then! I hope you haven't done yourself too much damage pal.

Oh, so you're going through the samething as I am... I damaged myself a lot probably over the years. I headbanged day and night for 3 years but I was perfectly fine but suddenly it got worse this summer. You better see your doctor about this. It's so hard to stop headbanging though cause it's not as fun to listen to heavy metal without doing it.

Well it hasn't caused me pain at any time other than when I headbang.....but it's always hurt me to headbang so i'm not really worried.

and, meh, I just listen to the music. I find if I headbang then i'm distorting the noise in my ears and i'm not concentrating on the music as much. If the music is motivating enough for me to ever do anything, I almost always start air-drumming. now that is fun, hehehe

If you find an air-guitarist, an air-bassist and an air-singer then you can start an air-metal band :loco:

Ok, here's what you do to fix that. After a show before you go to bed take two Advil. Then when you wake up take another two. It might still hurt a little bit the next day, but I guarantee it won't be as bad.

I've destroyed my neck muscles a couple of times after a party or a concert

After Wacken Open Air my neck was a ruin!! My muscles couldn't keep my head up when I was on the bus home.. I just walked around with my head down and couldn't see much more than the pavement he he

after that I've been a bit more careful. Heard a story about one who snapped his neck under a concert and died. Don't know if its true, but I think it's possible

And another thing is that I get bad headaches sometimes when I'm headbanging. Migren or something

honestly, that's a great idea. i mean, we'll compose material (the beauty being it can be infinitely complex and yet miraculously easy to play) and then record an album with a sensitive mic or something. I mean, if me and my pals are passionate about our music (which we are) we're gonna be making SOME noise that'll make it on the recording. You'd be able to hear the thumping of my feet on the air pedals (ground) anyway, and i'm sure the rest of the band are bound to make some vocal noises when they get carried away playing.

That could really work...

When i went to see cob back in may there were a group of guys with their own air band, playing along to follow the reaper hah :D I always play air guitar or air drums, it rocks. My neck usually lasts a whole concert but at the end of it, as ravnanger said, it goes really floppy and the muscles are just like goo lol i have to walk round looking at the floor or propping my head up with my hand

I head bang so much that I am used to it, so quit whining  When I first started playing metal shows my neck was flopping all over the place, the more shows I played the stronger my neck got, LOL you should see my band now, the whole show it is just four people headbanging and jumping around, except during my solos and our drummer, he just headbangs, which is quite miraculous if you have ever seen it, he is nuts on drums.

Jon Scheafer of Iced Earth actually slipped a disc headbanging, now he can't,that's a pitty.

Holy shit. :OMG: Isn't there a way to safely headbang? Like training neck muscles for example.

Nah, you just do it, but don't go fucking crazy with it, don't snap your neck back and forth, that cuases whiplash, keep it as controlled as possible, and when you feel your neck getting tired, stop, the next time you should be in better shape, BUT, headbanging can seriously injure you if you are not carefull, so...BE CAREFULL, and know your limits.

AJ's Headbanging tip for the day; long hair helps, it looks like you are thrashing your head when all you are doing is moving your hair.
