Hear Me Calling New Song Test (rock vox)

sounds good to me. I would back off the attitute in the voice, if you see what I mean. It sounds like a rockstar too sure of himself :) But it's sounding really really great I think.

Mixwise I would lower the kick or make it less aggressive maybe ? Snare is too compressed for my taste in such a rock song. Guitars are a bit muddy, though in the whole picture it sounds okay you could make them sound better with another tighter sound imo.

What do you mean by clipping your vocals ? It shouldn't need clipping, only compression and eq, unless you're talking about something else.

BTW, what's your vocal chain ? Do you sing close to the mike ? I just posted a thread which origins lies in the fact I can't make a sm57/58 sound good on my own singing and don't know if it's me or that the sm58 does not fit me ! :)

Thanks LeSedna! Yeah I thought I was oversinging (that's what you mean right?):-)..shite. By clipping I meant I had the gain turned up way to high on my preamp so came out real distorted not too mention I had the speakers blaring into the mic lol. This one was just the sm58 into the fireface pre. I usually use a rode classic.
I will resing and do what you suggested!! Thanks so much!!

I like your song Stephen!
I agree a little with the attitude comment though, but the melodies are nice!

Hey Steve. On first listen...I like the vocals. "Attitude" and all. You may have oversung it a little bit, but I like it. After all, singing is like a form of acting, isn't it? I like to hear the vocalist really get into the part. But then again, you know my musical tastes are sometimes different than a lot of folks around here. ;) I 57 or 58 CAN sound really good for vocals...but also largely depends on the voice of the singer. I've worked with one singer before (won't drop names) that has a fantastic voice, and a huge range. At other studios, they tried using every good type of vocal mic out there, but his voice just always sounded too thin. When helping his band do some demo stuff, I just ran him through a 57, and it sounded better than anything else. It suited his voice perfectly.

About the song itself, I like it! It's a good song! Production-wise, it could be a little fuller. Partly from the mix, but also from the production point of view (like, the arrangement or number of parts recorded). There's a lot of potential in this! One thing though, it may just be my ears playing tricks on me...my ears and sinuses are a little messed up right now. But I could swear there's a tuning issue going on at times on the guitars. Or maybe the guitars relative to the bass. Like I said...this is just my first listen, and my ears aren't quite right at the moment. I'll keep listening.

Great song Steve!

It's a great song, one of the better vocal arrangements you've done so far Stephen !
I could imagine this being a nice drinking song because of the catchiness of the chorus :) (I mean that as a positive thing)

Anyway, I want the opportunity to give this song a shot when it's done ;)

Good Rock tune! Just played a solo over it at home just noodling around while listening. If I had more time, i'd submit one to you.
