Heavy Rhythm Guitars: Room question.

I'm just curious as to how you guys approach heavy rhythms in regards to the room.

Do you prefer a live or dead room? Or do you put your amps in an acoustically dead closet?

I've seen "Year and a Half in the life of Metallica" and they built a tent out of packing blankets around the amps.

I'm quite interested to see how you guys approach it.
