Shit makes me want to haul off and punch some one in an "I've been doing my taxes for 5 hours, and I just don't fucking get it" sort of way... My brain just wants to hear a 4:4 beat for like 2 seconds...

This is the stuff that your local college hipsters want to try and do, but fail at keeping it together or even playing tightly or even realizing that what they thing is odd and off is just 4/4 and just end up going for straight ahead indie rock. At least from what I've seen around my area.

only shit ive liked from all the stuff posted so far is the first vid, nice and retarded.

remo, that sums up exactly my thoughts on a lot of shit like this. it goes one of two ways, you dont just bum about at that hipster middle ground, you either play indie or you do too many drugs, have a psychadelic freakout and end up insane and get into even more atonal and messed up shit.
these hella guys graduated to the latter \m/

 So true! A lot of guys here are either still stuck in their own style of playing and really haven't experimented much with other styles, OR, they get stuck with inadequate drummers or bass player who don't know how to spice things up or play out of their "safety zone". Oh, and I'm sure their consumption of alcohol or any other recreational substances could slow them down from bring the "maths".
All that said, when the mathrock is done good, its pretty damn good to chill out to.

oh man, hella is so good. I got "hold your horse is" in my ipod. good album

from monuments to masses is also really good too!

I recorded my friends band 3 years ago in Denton, TX and they play this kind of music. They are really music geeks, they write every single note, silence, everything!!!

The pro tools sessions have SOOO many tempo/time signature changes, you wouldn't even believe it.

Math rock is aesthetically much more closely aligned to hardcore punk than indie.
Although obviously math rock draws influence from both

I guess now would be a good time for this:
