Ahoy,

I thought I might drop in here and attempt to contribute... I have been an awful lurker of the UM boards for a damn long time now, but I thought it was about time I quit anti-socialising and try and get involved in something.

I actually must confess that I am mostly here because I am having some form of withdrawal, having recently broken up with my long time metaler bf, I miss the long hair!

I'm mostly into death metal, or death/prog or prog... SYL, Alchemist, Demilich, Ayreon, Opeth etc. I also enjoy my metal with a bit of comedy factor from time to time, eg. Zimmershole, but there isn't too much I don't like as far as music, so long as it is somewhat heavy.

I am also peeved at having missed Alchemist/The Amenta at Church the other night, I was going to be there and then all went awry... I never seem to be able to make it to any gigs... looking for that to change.

yeh i'm much the same lurking round these forums.
anyway i'm into mostly death metal like the berzerker, psycroptic, bloodbath, nile etc and a lot of other stuff naglfar, behemoth, meshuggah etc

anyone else here going to the Nile gig?
i can't wait should be good with psycroptic playing some new songs from there upcoming album. can't wait to hear them.

Perhaps if Canberra gets a bit more gig action (or I just get my arse into gear and get out to see some...) then I will actually be able to comment on it!

On the other hand I could always travel to somewhere that wasn't so dead... or maybe I should just move altogether?

What's the best city in Australia for metal?

Melbourne would be a good start. Adelaide's meant to be good for metal too. The US or Europe would be even better!

Yeah perhaps one day. I have to stop being poor and un-adventurous first. But then moving away from Canberra would be a good way to save money. We shall see....

I was just under the impression that Canberra was an expensive place to live... could be wrong. Only other place I have lived is Coffs Harbour and I know it was very much cheaper there, but then what can you expect!

Yeah it is meant to be more expensive than other cities. It costs more to rent there than it does here, apparently.

From what I've heard, the Adelaide scene is dying quickly. Still a few killer clubs though. From what I can tell, the Melbourne scene is probably foremost amongst the Aussie scenes, followed fairly closely by Sydney.

And yes, Behemoth is true!

I just keep hearing that there isn't nearly as many fans around anywhere, and that a few bands have broken up, etc. I think they've still got a decent club scene for their size though.

Meh, its pretty shit really. There are a few bands in my area, including my band, that are trying to het the ball rolling and next year sounds as though there should be a decent amount of shows. Auckland has an ok scene, but a bit much straight brutal death metal for my liking, I like alot of melodies and crap

McDoom, what kind of band is yours? It's weird how brutal death seems to proliferate in some places. I like it, but also like a bit of variation.
