Helloween- Straight Out Of Hell Thoughts?

I really like it. I've found Helloween's releases to be consistently good of late. Though I do have to agree that there may be a few too many songs on the album. It's a bit of too much of a good thing, IMO.

I like it a lot, but it doesnt surpass Gambling...,which is top 3 for me along with the masterpiece that is Time of The Oath!!

I revisited it a while back and the songs I liked on it really didn't hold up like past albums. One or two are still great but the rest was just ok. I hope next time they do less songs and make it just a solid start to finish album.

I agree.. Straight Out of Hell did not stick for me like Gambling did.

The newest Unisonic EP is REALLY weak.

Still haven't heard the new Gamma Ray, but my drummer won't shut the f*ck up about it, so just to spite him I ain't listening...

I did really like the last Gamma Ray...after many bad albums they got their act together it seems.

I thought as a whole it was no better or worse than anything they have done in the last 15 years..... BUT...... The opening track "Avalon" is AWESOME, and worth the price of the album alone. Best Gamma Ray song since "Rebellion in Dreamland".

The new Gamma Ray is solid. It blows Unisonic and Helloween out of the water. It's not the same classic "nerdy" power metal like LOTF or SOIS but still great nonetheless. The stuff is a little more modern, more ballsy. Kai Hansen's voice sounds better than ever. And yes, Avalon is a great tune.

This discussion prompted me to listen to "Straight Out of Hell: Premium Edition". It had been a while since I had heard it, and I'm thinking now this is really a very good album. There are other Helloween albums I like more, but "Straight" really is a solid album with no complaints from me.

Sorry but no. Helloween is way more consistent than Gamma Ray. That said, the new Gamma Ray is great.

I wouldn't go so far as WAY more.....

Every other album or so, Helloween has a sub par release for sure....

I think both bands are very consistent, but I think Helloween is consistently at a slightly higher level than Gamma Ray. Both good, but Helloween is one step better.

Honestly, the only Helloween album I really consider sub-par is Pink Bubbles; every other disc has had more good stuff than not. Sure, if they were to combine the best tracks from every pair of albums into a SINGLE album, they'd have killer albums every time, but I'll take average Helloween almost any day over most of the other stuff out there.

Yeah, well, that's where there is always debate with Helloween.

I love Pink Bubbles actually.

Chameleon I can barely stand, and Keepers III was very inconsistent.

....and I'm the total opposite. Chameleon may well be my favorite Helloween album (although I can appreciate WHY Helloween fans disliked it so much), and Keepers III is probably my second favorite Deris era disc behind "Master of the Rings".

Funny world.

:erk:

I'm speechless at the Chameleon album. I do think Keepers III is very underrated though. If they trimmed a few songs from it and made it a single album, it would have been fine, not to mention not calling it a "Keepers" album.

I'm speechless at the Chameleon album.

I get that a lot from that comment..... But.... Songs like "Revolution Now", "I Believe", "First Time", and "When the Sinner" are all killer tunes...... They just aren't POWER METAL like fans had expected. It's a very different album, with more of a proggy style to it than anything else they have done to date.

And on Keepers III, I agree completely about the title! No reason at all to call it a Keepers album. Ditto for Land of the Free II, and all the other "sequel" albums that became the rage for a few years.
