Sorry for the thread title. I didn't really have one particular genre in mind.

So, I'm in need of some new bands. I tend to be extremely picky in what I listen to, so I don't often find new bands I really dig. Regardless, I'm not necessarily close-minded or opposed to most genres.

Some of my favourite stuff is:

Opeth
Agalloch
Gojira
Wolves in the Throne Room
Enslaved
Ulver's Bergtat

I also dig some Burzum.

I suppose it's kind of a predictable collection of bands, so I hope you'll be able to recommend me something that fits. ;)

In closing I'd like to include this hilarious quote:
I don't understand how people do it.

Opeth's musical talent, being so great, makes it hard for me to listen to any other metal band. How can you enjoy something so simplified and under developed???

Well, let's see if we can find some more technically advanced music then.

I'd suggest Borknagar (all their albums are good; I'd recommend anything but their most recent record to start with)
Amorphis (Tales From the Thousand Lakes, Elegy)
Evergrey (The Inner Circle)
Moonsorrow (Kivenkantaja)
Vesperian Sorrow (Psychotic Sculpture, Regenesis Creation)
Virgin Black (Sombre Romantic, Elegant... and Dying)
Amon Amarth (I think they're far better than Gojira; get Once Sent From the Golden Hall)

I'll add more if I think of some, based on your tastes.

definitely Empyrium, Negura Bunget and In The Woods

you might also be interested in The Morningside, October Tide, Fen, Woods of Ypres, Alcest, Darkestrah, Drudkh, Haive and Farsot

Also, you're name forced me to recall the Therion song Uthark Runa. Therion began as a death metal band (with some symphonic elements), but progressed throughout the years into a very mature, intelligent symphonic metal band. You might enjoy some of their stuff.

Katatonia
Paradise Lost
Sentenced
Amorphis
Edge of Sanity
Tristania
Anathema(older)
Novembers Doom
Draconian
October Tide
