It's mainly refering to songwriting it seems. So in essence, it's what ever instrument that would be featured in the songs he's trying to write.

Most songs do. And considering he is asking for advice in a forum about a band who uses guitars in their songs, his songs probably will.

Well i don't think anyone should make the assumption that all the songs he's trying to write feature guitar in it. Cause no one knows for sure at this point until he says so. Not even all my songs have guitar in it.
