I've listened to around 100 metal albums released in 2006, and I can safely say that it's been an absolutely splendid year for extreme metal. A top 40 is perhaps a bit ambitious, but I spent quite a lot of time listening to new releases last year, writing small reviews and giving scores whilst listening.

As always, we have little in common, but that Martyr is in my top 10 and Sleep Terror in my top 30 or so. Actually, those might be the only 2 on your list I've even heard.

Yeah, quite a lot of it is on the comp, except for the non-DM bands (Merrimack, Belenos, etc).

I wouldn't mind hearing something off "Descend Dethrone". Thanks.

In retrospect, it might have been a mild exaggeration to describe this as "brutal DM that doesn't sound like any other band out there", but Deamon definitely sounds pretty unique to me. There's just something about that distinct, dark atmosphere that gives me the goosebumps.
