Yep, they sure did, back in 1972! I like the original and also Isley Brothers' version of it as well as Ceasar Frazier's version. It's hard to say which one I like best. If you want the other originals; Beatles did "Day tripper", which is a medley of that, "I want you (she's so heavy)" and "If I needed someone". Neil Young did "Cinnamon girl".
By the way, I don't know how much studio there is about "Hey pete" on "least worst of". It sounds exactly the same as on "Origin of the feces", except the sound is a bit different (and worse). Maybe they just slapped an equalizer on it and called it studio. Their "Cheese organ mix" of "My girlfriend's girlfriend" is also rip-offish, as they just removed the bass drum in the beginning.
