hey JayKeely

Englund sounds like Seeger? aaargh!

I bought Dionysus this weekend. as with much power metal, the songwriting is mediocre (there are just too many of these bands around)...but the band musically is great fun, the rhythm section in particular is prominent in the mix, and they just swing. interestingly coproduced by Tobi Sammet, and you can tell in places.

ordered Edguy's Burning Down the Opera from theend on monday, I'll probably get it tomorrow. once again I'll thank markgugs for ridiculing me for not patronizing them, where else could I find what I anticipate being very possibly the best live PM offering this year, for $14?

i'd much rather have som blood red throne or ancient rites to listen to on my headphones during lectures!

Hey did you read my Dim Carcosa review? I found it really interesting to write because there is so much mystical history around the place. I'd like to visit it one day.

I know 99% of people automatically hate anything labelled power metal. I also know that 99% of power metal deserves to be hated.

BUT, Edguy are supreme. They fit into that 1% category. Seriously, if people can get past the stereotype of PM bands, they might notice that a few are seriously talented. Tobias Sammet is a phenomenal song writer, and Edguy are an astounding band.

Most people who write them off as Helloween clones have not even heard them. I GUARANTEE it. But hey, whatever.

yeah, loved the review. sounds like a place straight out of lovecraft.

and strangely enough, my m/w/f class at 8 in the morning is none other than. . . *flaring trumpets* medieval history!

Medieval history, eh? That sounds pretty fucking cool IMO.

My M/W/F 8 AM was Environmental Biology. In the furthest possible building from my dormitory. Needless to say I didn't attend that bad boy too often. Got a C- though, so not a total loss.

took medieval history myself and it was terrific. one of my favorite subjects still to this day. so much intrigue, betrayal, mayhem, ahhhhhhhh.

I was such a bonehead in college...one semester I decided to schedule all my classes on tuesdays and thursdays so I could have four day weekends...I was in fucking class from like 7 am to 6 pm every T and Th...counting my chem lab.

Since you guys are at college, now is the time to use your vacation and travel! You won't believe how shitty it is to be in the rat race getting 2-3 weeks holiday a year (compared to those huge summer breaks you have now).

If I could, I'd take a month off straight and see parts of Europe that I never had a chance to see when I lived there - so much medieval history (obviously).

lordy is that the truth. I question the wisdom of my dad sending me to munich for two years by myself. I think on hot days I still sweat Paulanerbrau.

Don't ask me what I was thinking, but me and my buds even smoked some hash before going to Dachau. what were we expecting?!?!?!?!?!

BWD see about getting a Eurail pass. you can travel over most of western europe for a month, no limits. european train systems totally rule compared to here.

I never took medieval history, but I did take a literature class that concentrated heavily on writings of the period...worst scheduled class I had was an 8 am networking in which I got virtually nothing done besides watching computers get disassembled...but the tests were easy enough. :)

I did that every quarter and loved it! If I ever needed a break I would just ditch a class and go sleep in the library.

Summer break in college? I never had one of those... my last summer break was when I was 17. Been workin' for da man ever since. Damn yous man! :)

Yeah, I thought college students were supposed to be poor? I spent summers waiting tables at a lobster restaurant on the coast of Maine. Not very glamourous! :ill: During my first year, I even went back to my HS waitress job at Pizza Hut for the week that I was on spring break.

I just had to get all my fun in during the school year... heh heh. And instead of doing a summer Euro vacation, I just spent a year of college studying there.... much more justifiable to the parents that way. :p

College students are poor. But they're poorer in countries that demand they pay for their own college tuition.

Entry to university should be based on qualification, not bank balance. Every single person is entitled to a government funded education to ANY university they wish to go to (provided they qualify). But I digress.... :D

To all you students - EuroRail is the way to go! Or backpacking around Australia is fun too. :)

You damn pinko. *admits that he agrees*

Screw backpacking, I'd rather ship my 4Runner to Australia and wheel my life away... ahhhhhhh...
