As I sad. I'm really fresh Opeth listener. I went to see DevilDriver in Chicago on the 17th. After the show i of course wanted to chat with Dez and all the other guys, but then Dez asked why i wazn't listening to Opeth. Dez said they were fucking great so i checked em out.

Fucking heavy as hell and agressive! They could be faster and maybe more riffbased but i'm digging it. Don't like the slow parts much, but i'm gettin there. Only heard Deliverance (which is my favourite) and parts of damnation. What should i download next?

Welcome to the board, and dont let these elitist motherfuckers get to you. They are as close-minded as christians. I saw Devildriver at the Toronto show, and I have to say, they werent half bad. They werent great, I probably wont buy their cd, but Dez has come a long way since Coal Chamber. As for where to start, I say Masters Apprentice, Bleak and The Lepper Affinity. It took me a while to figure out just what the hell Opeth are doing, but once you take the time to listen to what they are playing and how it goes together with the lyrics, you wont be able to stop.


As for the rest of you:

You have to start somewhere. When I first got into heavy music, I listened to Korn, Coal Chamber, Sevendust ect. I still love Sevendust, but the others make me ill. Im quite sure that all of you picked up an Opeth album as soon as you were old enough to appreicate music. Just to piss you guys off here is a list of bands that I listen to, that ARENT Opeth and ARENT even metal:

Seriously though, About 4 years ago, before I downloaded music, I was into the mainstream popular metal as well.. Deftones, Korn, Sepultura, Static X... with my Tr00 metal backups- Slayer, Megadeth, IronMaiden, MachineHead.. and so on..

Then I started downloading and found Opeth on accident. Since then, my 3 fav bands are Opeth, Children of Bodom and In-Flames.. If this kid is just getting into Opeth, then there is a chance for him.

Yes!!! Opeth, Children of Bodom and In Flames!!!

Love all three... have seen Opeth and In Flames... going to see Children of Bodom with Iced Earth and Evergrey in about 2 months! Definately going to see In Flames again when they tour Soundtrack To Your Escape (more or less for their older songs, but whatever, still a good show)
