I've been listening seriously to music for 3 decades, with harder stuff the priority. But didn't discover dark metal 'till February of 2003 when I took a chance on Opeth's 'Blackwater Park' based on a friends recommendation.
Revelation!!! would be the word that best describes that intial listen. And I've been on the dark metal ride ever since. Of course I've been doing a lot of catch-up as there has been a lot of music in the years I was oblivious.
Bands that have caught my ear this year: My Dying Bride, Tristania, Dimmu Borgir, Katatonia, Celtic Frost, Immortal, Arch Enemy, Nokturnal Mortum, Diabolical Masquerade. I've got some Mayhem in the mail to me now to check out.
