"Sam Bam" is one of my best friends.We moved out here together to San Francisco in 1989.I managed the band he was in at the time.He was always passionate about drums.He ran the drum department of a second hand music store in Santa Cruz.He noticed there wasn't a drum shop in SF so he decided to open one here in '93 and it became a very successful business.
It's the place all the drummers go.Andy from Death Angel & Torey of the Donnas were regular customers as well as drummers from touring bands that were in town.I always wanted to take Linda there.Sam absolutely loved his job running his own drum store so this is heart breaking.
I'm sure there will be benefit shows in the works.What's really strange is exactly HOW this driver plowed in to the drum shop!9th street in SF is a one way street.The driver had to have either come flying down the 9th street exit coming off the bay bridge or as I've heard he was flying up Folsom (another one way street)which crosses 9th.The driver apparently swerved to avoid a motorcyclist going the wrong way up Folsom,hit another car that was also trying to avoid the biker & then plowed in to the shop & then ran away like a pussy!
Still he had to be going pretty fast.Going down Folsom you need to turn left to get on to 9th.There's traffic lights there also.If you know that area,it looked like he would have had to literally zoomed from across the other side of the street,go over the curb,and plow his car all the way in to the shop!So he must've made a violent left turn & screeched to the right crashing through the drum shop.
I visit Sam at the shop when ever I'm in the neighborhood.I almost dropped by there this past Monday.He's always behind the counter so it could have been a real tragedy if the shop was open at the time.Well I know Sam will be back in business soon but right now I'm really pissed and I hope those responsible will answer for this!
