HoRNet AutoGain -A dirt cheap Bass/Vocal Rider alternative

Just an update.

This thing works really well but it works considerably different than the vocal and bass riders by Waves.

In AutoGain, you send your instrumental mix, or just the instruments you want AutoGain to respond to, to a single track and then sidechain that track into the track with AutoGain. AutoGain then interprets the signal in the side chain and adjusts volume based on that and the settings you have dialed in.

It works extremely well for vocals, I haven't gotten it perfect for bass but I think it is just a matter of tweaking the settings and only using certain instruments instead of the entire mix.

Sorry, badly phrased. Maybe sending white noise to the side-chain could make it level out the peaks like Waves bass rider/vocal rider.

Great idea! I tried it out and it worked like a charm for bass. I actually prefer using the instrument mix as the side chain for the vocals, but the white noise trick is perfect for bass. Cheers :hotjump:

Unfortunate kerning.. they should change the font..

Another example of bad kerning:

^^ hahaha

StoneLord, that's interesting, must admit that I haven't heard about that trick before! Where did you hear about it, I'm curious? :)
For Reaper users here - how would one go about doing that trick in Reaper, since it doesn't actually support VST3 format?

For reaper, send all the tracks you want to use to a single track, and send that track to the track with autogain to channels 3/4. Or if it's the white noise trick you want just download a white noise file, put it on its own track in reaper and send that track to channels 3/4 of the track with autogain. Make sure that the track you are sending to autogain has master/parent send so you don't hear the white noise or duplicate instrument mix. Hope that helps.

I wonder, if you ride the bass with constant level white noise, do you need compressors at all?

I think stonelord thought of that idea himself because this plug in is unique as far as I know. I've never come across a plug in that adjusts volume based on a side chain.

This information may be valuable alongside any Reaper user who uses js: volume_pan to ride levels via parameter modulation. Personally I think it's FUCKING GENIUS.
