HoRNet AutoGain -A dirt cheap Bass/Vocal Rider alternative

I think stonelord thought of that idea himself because this plug in is unique as far as I know. I've never come across a plug in that adjusts volume based on a side chain.

For reaper, send all the tracks you want to use to a single track, and send that track to the track with autogain to channels 3/4. Or if it's the white noise trick you want just download a white noise file, put it on its own track in reaper and send that track to channels 3/4 of the track with autogain. Make sure that the track you are sending to autogain has master/parent send so you don't hear the white noise or duplicate instrument mix. Hope that helps.

Thanks man, sure it helps! :kickass:

The only way to use such a plugin in Cubase is to go through VST3 that handle sidechain, right ?
The Hornet one doesn't seems to have a VST3 version, so I think it's totally unusable in Cubase ?

The MeldaProduction have a VST3 version, I'll try the demo right now and tell you how it is (however I never tried the Waves one) !
Only 30€ during April, I think that's a great deal (and I already own MAutoAlign from them that is great, I think this one will be great too).

This is good plugin. I didn't do my homework and bought the waves vocal rider and didn't realise the lack of vst3 support...

Can anyone get this to write automation in reaper?

Tried MAutoVolume and it's great !
I tried it mainly on bass with white noise on the sidechain input, I don't have anything to compare it with but it did a great job (I intentionnaly lowered some parts and after some tweaking the plugin leveled it nicelly).
No problems with sidechain via VST3.
Looks a lot like the Hornet one, with VST3 support and a few more features but it's also a bit less cheap (30€ with actual discount vs 11.99€).

I never used this kind of plugin before, I usually did manual volume riding via automation, so this kind of plugin will be a great help.
Gonna buy this at the end of the month, before it goes back to its normal price !!

How would this work on bass? I already own Vocal Rider but not Bass Rider, I know I could use VR for the job but if this is faster to tune in, at this price I could just grab this and dedicate it to use on bass...

If you want an extremely even bass track you can import some white noise onto a muted track and send that track to autogain as the side chain. Or you could use the instrumental mix as the side chain like you would with the vocals. I prefer the white noise method for bass.

Can't recommend the plugin enough I bought it at full price and no regrets here

Ok, slightly confused as to how this works.

Send all tracks that you want AutoGain to work with to a single track, then to auto gain? Or send, say, your entire mix to AutoGain and leave out the track(s) that will be "ridden"?

I get it to see a signal but it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. This is obviously user error, I just never messed with sidechaining much.

I prefer sending all the instruments I want autogain to react to to a new track channels 1-2, disable master parent send and send that track to channels 3-4 of the track with autogain. You can send the instruments straight to the track with autogain and it works the same, but creating a new track seems a bit cleaner to me. The key is that the signal going to the autogain track has to go to channels 3-4.

If that's confusing try following this:

1. Create new track
2. Send instrument tracks to the new track, don't switch any of the channels
3. Untick master/parent send in IO of new track
4. Send new track to Autogain track, Audio 1/2->3/4

I followed this tutorial....

but I assumed I'd be able to, for example, turn my fader down on the track that AutoGain is affecting and the plugin would automatically adjust it to sit on top of the mix. It doesn't do this.

Far Beyond - if I do what you say, and disable Master Parent Send, my entire mix disappears and leaves me with only the track I want "auto-ridden"......

I'll play around some more.

Do your IO boxes look like this?

Yup. Disabling Parent Send totally drops my instruments out. Maybe this is because I have the entire mix in a folder except the tracks I want affected by AutoGain?
