Hotel Options

In an attempt to be helpful, I wanted to point out that 11 nearby hotels are already booked for the weekend of ProgPower, so we advise not to put off making your lodging reservations much longer. And it certainly doesn't help that Georgia Tech has a home game that Saturday against Kansas.

I stayed in this hotel last year and really liked it. Spacious rooms, quiet, walking distance the venue and to MARTA.

For the last couple of months the AAA rate was $219/night. I just checked this morning and its down to $140/night. Rack rate is still $229. No idea why it changed so much, but I booked my room pronto after seeing that.

Thought I'd share the info for those still in need of lodging.

I gave up staying in Midtown after being bounced from the Residence Inn twice in 3 years after having the rooms booked well in advance all three times. Any hotel has the right to bounce you to a different establishment for any bullshit reason, so I take my business about 10 miles away and drive in. At least if I get bounced I have another 20 hotels to choose from

Add the Residence Inn to the list of hotels that are sold-out for ProgPower.

Glenn and I predict the Super 8 will be next.

Snagged a room at the W. It looks swanky and fun.

Ooh! Glenn and I have stayed there and we both liked it a lot; it was super nice. The bar/lounge downstairs was very lively and swanky. Our only complaint was the cost of valet parking overnight- we had a bit of sticker shock. And if you're in the mood for a good steak, I'd suggest trying Max Lager's- it's on the same block as the W.

I just reserved a room online at the Days Inn, but I'm reading here they were sold out back in Feb? It doesn't appear to be sold out now, but I guess I should call them to make sure I'll have a room.

Glad I got my room at the 'classy' Super 8 early ;)

Is it really as bad as it sounds?

It depends on how you classify "bad". It looks like hell, and I have stayed there every year since PPUSA VI and never had an issue. But, it is lacking in just about every possible amenity. You just have to consider what you're there for... sleeping, showering, etc. Otherwise, you're pretty much at the venue or somewhere else. If you want the nice breakfast, bar on premises, courtyard, swimming pool, etc, then this is not your place. I will say that the 15-20 minute walk after a long festival day is a bit of a drag and gets old pretty fast...
