Damn. Guess I will be hitching my hopes on my brother's GF having the apartment nearby that she said she'd have.

Thanks for the update.

Most hotels do not require a payment at the time of reservation when it's so far in advance. We continue to strongly suggest folks do not delay with lodging reservations. When we're given the green light to make the Wed./Thurs. night announcement soon, rooms will become even more scarce - I guarantee it. Tickets went on sale at last year's festival this year (opposed to Spring); hence, more folks are booking lodging earlier. Half of our tickets are already SOLD OUT. I also feel like we have a lot of "new blood" that will be attending this year.

There's ALWAYS something going on in Atlanta. :) Braves games, Georgia Tech football games, events at the Georgia Dome, etc. It's also rumored that Music Midtown festival will be in September again this year. Coldplay was the headliner last year and it drew around 60,000 people.

Lodging alternatives: 1280 West Peachtree high-rise apartment building or Atlantic Station condos

Bed & Breakfasts may be another good lodging alternative - especially for those of you that will have a car.

For example, this one's rate starts at $86/night:

There are several lovely B&B in the Inman Park area - which is about 4 miles from the venue. Most of them are restored Victorian homes.

FYI if you are a Mariott Rewards member and you do a search for Thursday thru Sunday at the Residence Inn, you DO see openings. It is when you try to reserve Wednesday as well that you see it is full. Something must be going on Wednesday that filled the hotel.

I got reservations for Thursday thru Sunday.

Thursday through Sunday also worked for the Residence Inn, much to my happiness. I snagged a queen + sofa bed with a kitchen and a dining area for $119 a night, certainly cheaper than I'd have thought! I had to pay for the room now, but have the ability to cancel up until 2 days before the fest, which is nice. 5 rooms remain Thurs-Sunday for 119$ due at check in as a queen and a roll away bed. Not sure how many rooms with kitchens they have left.

I wouldn't be able to make it in on Wednesday either way, so this works out. Hope others have some luck who are coming in on Wednesday!

Also, if a hotel is booked on its main website, it might have openings on websites like hotels.com, priceline.com, expedia, etcetc. When I booked our hotel last week, a few hotels I looked at were booked on their website, but had openings on hotels.com :) I guess those websites sortof reserve rooms or something? Not sure how it works. Sometimes hotels can be much cheaper through these third-party websites, too! I'm sure there's a drawback somewhere, but oohh weellll.

(And I'm new, so hi ;D)

It gets even weirder... if you try to book a room at the Residence through the Marriott website, for Tue - Sun, it shows rooms still available. If you look for Wed - Sun, it says they're sold out. Then if you look for Thu - Sun, it shows rooms are available again, and if you search for Fri - Sun, it once again says they're sold out. It's like they don't want people to stay for an even number of days, lol.

In my experience, you can book hotels late, except for the ones within stumbling distance of the venue like Artmore and Residence. I've never booked earlier than August. That's because when I try to book between April and July, I can't find anything. Around August people who finally realize they won't be able to make it must be cancelling.

The last couple years, the Artmore as the official hotel, has been charging for the full stay 1 month in advance of the fest. But for any other hotel, there's no downside to booking early, because there's no charge until you actually check in... you can cancel with no charge right up to the first day of the reservation. Even so, last year for example, the Residence had rooms intermittently available until fairly late into the summer, maybe even into September (though possibly not for the full length of stay people may have been looking for). It's possible that may be why they dropped their prices slightly this year.

That will continue this year. I have no idea if they will remain the "official" hotel in the future as their recent policy changes seem to be less and less fan friendly.
