How many people actually use the tubescreamer??

It's essentially a standard 808 schematic with some electrolytics replaced by film caps, and some resistor values and caps interchanged.

Take the standard BYOC schematic and just make these changes:

=--Resistors:

Replace 51K with 20K (less distortion on low settings)

=--Capacitors:

Replace 1NP electrolytics with 1uf film capacitors (improved fidelity)

Replace the .22uf tantalum capacitors with .15uf (improve tone knob)

Optional: Replace .047uf film capacitor with .1uf film cap (reduce mid-hump, add bass)

=---Voltage

Run with a voltage between 9 and 18V for increased headroom.

I actually don't currently. I use a modded SD-1 that has a switch for symmetric and asymmetric clipping, 9 times out of 10 I'm on the asymmetric setting. I'm considering selling it and getting a 808 type OD to replace it though. Perhaps a Maxon OD808, perhaps a custom made pedal with some tweaks, I'm not completely sure yet.

Hence why it's optional and NOT part of my TS! It's worded poorly though. It doesn't actively increase bass, it just cuts less of it.

though I've been diggin my 6505 red channel without it a bit more lately. it doesn't do that much to that channel than the green one. anyone agree? or am I loosing it?

Dude, the TS boost infront of a tube amp is a glorious combination haha. Everyone who hears my recto in person loves my tone but they all ask why i use the od808 and i switch it off for them and their faces change instantly and the just go "ew." It's a subtle difference but a huge one at the same time.

Rectifiers probably benefit more than any other amps from them. Likewise the Mesa OS cab seems to benefit the most out of any of the cabs too, as all those loose sublows get cut off.

The TS7 is so cheap for chrissakes, why not buy one? And I always found the Pod TS to be much more nasally sounding than my TS7, so I'm with the analog-preferring crowd (though BTE TSS fucking rules)

TS-7 and PODXT user here.

I'll take the POD TS sim over nothing, but I prefer the TS in front of the POD.

Also love the TS in front of a tube amp. Really tightens things up and you get use the boost to go high gain and keep the fizzyness out.

Use to have a BOSS SD-1 and then had it modified, and then sold it. Was always kinda blah and then to top it off, when it's disengaged for clean playing, it still puts a little buzz on top of everything.

Also had a DS-1 and then got the Keeley Red Eye mod, and then sold it. Everyone raved how it sounded like a tube amp... sounded like a buzzy thin piece of crap to me.

I even like the TS-7 going into a tube amp's clean channel, both in classic and hot rod mode.

I used the Pod X3 Live's TS for some time ... sounded like Pooh.
No, not that drastic, but I definitly preferred my SD-1 over it. The Pods TS was harsh and not very pleasant to my ears
