I remember going to piano contests when I was a kid and it was pretty much the same thing as this, kids with amazing ability to play when they're really young. The thing is that they really lack any feeling to the music, there just "programmed" to press the keys. Some instructors hit the kids in the hands with a pencil that they would tap against the piano as a metronome. They also told you to "smile" and "move like a pianist".
