Well i do mobile recording and I'm usually in places were people are smoking. My volume knobs and preamp knobs are crackling a little bit and doing weired things they should not be. There is also dust on the top from sitting around here also so i would like to clean it out if possible. Now i have used contact cleaner on plastic things like knobs and buttons and had them break off. So im a little worried about this.

Just any tips and pointers on cleaning up my digi oo2 connections and stuff would be great......

Yeah, only on the left speaker, tho'. It goes away after I twist it around a few times. Sounds just like some dust has gotten inside the pot. (If you've ever played a Jackson, you'll recognize it :p )

funny my left speaker as well and i have to twist around a few times to get it to stop. Kinda annoying though huh....

Now do your preamps on the 002 get weired when there turned all the way up? Mine will do wired jumps in volume when there real close to being turned all the way up. I did have a Black Lion Audio preamp mod but not sure that has anything to do with this....

Its not unmanageable but just annoying more than anything.

My MBOX 2 does that, and knowing Digi, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of similarities between the two :D

The preamp volume jumping thing (that has a nice ring to it) - whenever I'm turning it up, it'll be little signal, little signal, KABOOM clip-city, so I definitely have to exercise caution (and I bought it new and it's been doing it from the get go, so I doubt it's an issue with the pots or anything)

Mine is fine till about 3/4 of the way up then that last 1/4th is real sensitive and just jumps in volume and stuff. I'm wondering if cleaning would help at all or if i need the pot replaced. :Smug:

Dirty pots are typical and hardly unique to digidesign products. pull the knobs off and spray some deoxit or similar contact cleaner in there and then turn the knobs back and forth. That should clean up minor stuff. If you still have problems you may need to get it serviced.

I wonder if they used logarithmic vs linear pots for the preamps.

The only mod I've done to my 002r is add a larger volume knob so its easier to set the level I want. I just swiped a knob from an old stereo, works way better than that tiny crap.
