How to create a fat crunch tone using just vst's

Can anyone shed some light on how to create some amazing metal tones using just vst's?

Any ones they would recomend? I'm plugging my guitar straight into my presonus fp10.

I wanna get a modern metal sound, something really beasty.

I've tried the wagner vst, not really happening for me

Ideally i'm gonna mic up my cab record that in any use a vst tone as an overdub to fatten it up!

and yes, that's an honest answer...i've demo'd most of the amp sims available, and every one of them can be useful if dialed in right

edit: except guitar rig...that 1 blows beyond belief

In this case, simple said, impulse means a speaker simulation. the wagner plugin needs a speaker simulation, that's maybe why it didn't work for you.

a speaker simulation? oh hang on. so wagner is just a head vst, i also need a cab/speaker vst? any free ones about which are good?
