I know I know, this is not metal I just want some pointers to get a huge bass guitar sound like this. Like plugins, hardware, bass model, settings, processings all that jazz. Sounds like too loud without mudding up the mix, and cuts through/super audible even at low volumes.

There's a great metal example of a perfectly audible, clear and loud bass:

Damn I love this tone!

From my experience, it all begins with a flawless performance. Good picking (or fingering:) ), good timing and tuning. Without it it'll never cut through, it'll just get a mix muddy. If you try to bring up the midrange-upper midrange nuances of a poor performance, it'll just sound dirty as hell.
So, either a good VSTi, or a damn good live player:)
Then - parallel crunch/drive/distortion, proper compression of a DI, proper eq to clear the muddy frequencies (really depends on the tuning, instrument and arrangmeent, so you must explore). And don't be afraid to bring that bass up. If there's a risk of peaking, put a limiter on the bass guitar group, let it cut out 1-3 db.
