Lately I've been HP/LP my shells which I never do cause of a suggestion I got. Problem is I've been A/B'ing my ears numb back and fourth, I'm not sure if I'm experiencing placebo or if it's authentically better. I'd post a clip but I'd rather know is it good/commonplace to HP/LP shells? I use samples. Usually

Snare Hp@100-150Hz, Lp@9Khz
Kick Hp@40Hz, Lp@12Khz
High Tom -Hp@50 -Don't LP
Low tom I don't Hp/Lp

As far as I've always been told that's totally commonplace, though usually it's more High Pass than Low Pass as the low end eats up your headroom a lot more than high end will.

For me it's usually...

Snare - High Pass at 70-90, no low pass unless there's excessive cymbal bleed
Kick - High Pass at 40, no low pass
Toms - High Pass at 90 on the highest Tom and work down in 10hz increments down to the lowest Tom on the kit.

This should probably be in FOH though, not Backline.
