but there fast as hell.

they probably counted it it double time (8th notes) so it will be 180

Except for the fact that 320/2 = 160, not 180, you're correct.

What I want to know is, how is dude getting work from labels and such if he can't figure out how to make a click with 8th notes?

'cos the click isn't audible on the finished product? Who cares what tempo/sig you program in, as long as the notes all end up in the right place.
