JAY LENO..."HITS THE NAIL ON THE HEAD"

The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?''

Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bulletproof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it...are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way...Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.

We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

i dont know where you got that from, but it's dead-on! :kickass:

Old Ric Flair said it best....

Whether you like it or Whether you dont,,,its the best damn thing going today. !!!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, this country as a whole and as a small does incredible things. just skip past the shit you hear on the tv and read on the net.

well, can't say what the man said is wrong, but here's what i see as a resident in the United States since 1998 and a french national since i was born in the great year of 1981(yes it was great year).

Yes its true, people shouldn't complain about the given that they have in this country. After all, if i wouldn't have moved here, i probably would have never started a TV club in high school with a top of the art equipment donated for free by NBC. I wouldn't worked in recording studios with some of the best producers in the world, i wouldn't have gone on tour across the Whole world (yes i have now traveled to every single continent and i'm only 25 and i got paid for it) In short, most of this would have been impossible for me while in France.

But i DO have a problem with the president and the retards workin for the news network, especialy the grand douchebag Bill O'Reilly. Simply because my country refused to go to war, we had to be boycoted, called all sorts of name. And to show how stupids everyone was, they even changed the name of french fries to freedom fries, and they're not even from France, and yes i did go into a dinner in the midwest where they called it freedom fries.
Why couldn't our opinion on our freedom be left alone. Why didn't Bush attack German or Russia or any other country in europe who was liberated from Nazi Germany (since we OWE you that why doesn'y any one else does?) Stop bringing that whole WWII thing back because you are being just as equal as my pals asking for reparation.

In case you weren't aware France has its own issues with muslims at home, and going to war far far away could have started even more trouble at home, because WE have far more islamist than You do America. And that's why i have a problem with Bush for not respecting other people's own issues at home.

Being alienated for being french as been a problem after 9/11. I was treated just like those who attacked america, but i never did anything armfull to anyone, nor did my country. By us not showing up, we didn't kill more americans. In fact we contributed stopping terrorist before they made it across the ocean, because our intelligence forces have been watching them for years. Yes we had our own attack in our own land, but we decided to treat the problem at home.

I always treated everyone in this country with respect, because the door was left open for me to come here, get an education, go to work, pay my taxes like everyone else. But that was my decision, and not that of my country. That is my disapointment with the government and the people who fell behind every single word and didn't give me any respect that i gave them.

coveruinoil, I never knew you were French. I'm not sure that I would have treated you differently had I known either. What I do know is that anyone has the right to boycott France or any other country whenever they feel compelled to. Bush never told Americans to boycott France. Americans have never been real fond of France to begin with. Maybe we have no stomach for panzies, maybe we are just put off by the French's infatuation with Jerry Lewis. I'm not sure.

is it true Jacque Chirac is soooooo in love with money that he carries a briefcase full of it with him everywhere?

It is probably full of Jerry Lewis DVD's. The French love him like the Germans love Hasselhoff.
Nice picture by the way.

Let me just say this- Coveruinoil - Is one of my best friends- His wife and children spend time every week in my house. JC is like my little french brother. One of my heros is Charles Degaul. Look him up- He had balls of steel and if he was running France right now he would bitch slap the muslims there with bacon gloves. I agree, BUsh never said boycott France and freedom fries are let's say interesting. Did you people know that MOD does best in France when we tour europe? As far as the krauts are concerned their a whole different can of shit or schizer or whatever they are.
Either way Coveruinoil is family to me. I don't think I need to talk more about it. and Oh yeah, HE edited the 20 years of dysfunction dvd for SOD-
So he is also related to SGT"D":worship:

Aside from pointing out that Bush did not direct any boycott of France. I was just doing some good old fashioned ball-busting.

Oh yeah, Billy...I hung out with JC at Anthony's favorite bar in Hoboken last summer when you were in town...he's a very nice, very cool dude. I'm pretty sure that's the same guy.

I think France is in a difficult situation, first they are a former "super power" that is trying to re-assert itself as such but doesnt want to seem as imperialistic. And France is trying despretely to deal with its internal muslim problem without being seen as racist, or intolerant. Germany has it even worse in the last regard because of past tolerance problems

That is truly a great article by someone who obviously gets it.

Of course, the snobbish, elitist, communist homo liberals will tell you that there are some negative things about America:

-3,000 dead in Iraq
-skyrocketing gas prices
-nine trillon dollar deficit
-increasing reliance on foreign oil
-a steadily weakening dollar
-virtually no support from our foreign allies
-possible voter fraud in recent elections
-a mishandled war in Iraq with no end in sight
-out-of-control corporate protectionism via the federal government
-guns can easily be acquired by homicidal psychos
-unceasing scandals in the White House
-increased risk of terrorism due to the Iraq War
-domestic wiretappings and other forms of privacy invasion by the government
-complete lack of oversight in Washington DC
-massive decline in scientific output and medical research when compared to Europe
-steadily declining test scores in our schools
-steadily declining literacy rate
-widening gap between the rich and the poor
-a lack of any recent, worthwhile accomplishments in anything on the global stage

and blah blah blah. All typical homo commie BS. None of that matters, because as the author of that article said, we can drive from state to state without paperwork. Plus we have Starbucks and McDonalds. And we saved Europe's ass sixty years ago.

USA! USA! USA!
