Hurray for jay leno..

i highly doubt this is something written by Leno, and I personally find the article utterly ridiculous. people have plenty of reason to be absolutely disgusted by the government and president. all this bullshit trying to evoke sympathy and shame for being critical of and questioning the government's actions is just that, bullshit

Regardless of who wrote this, I don't think what you're saying is exactly the point. I agree with you, but we are a nation of spoiled babies.

how? I don't see what the point of this article is other than baseless namecalling towards citizens that actually show care and concern for the future of its country and its people.

translating "unhappy with the current direction of the country and the performance of the president", both of which i am, into seemingly "absolutely ungrateful about past struggles and progress in the modern world. pricks who hate the country" is just ridiculous.

this article is like telling slaves on plantations to suck it up because hey, at least you get a little sleep and a little food once in awhile, right? it could be worse! yes, it could be worse. but it could also be better. just like today.

Seance, the line between malcontents and those truly interested in the betterment of the country is not a fine one. I think (feel free to correct me Shenk.) Shenk is speaking to the malcontents. Most people I run into that are not happy with the direction of the country, can't give me specific examples of why they feel that way. I get an awful lot of "Illegal War" and "I just do!" Those are the types that I think the above is geared towards. The ones who just repeat what they hear without thinking about what the words coming out of their mouths. For many, blaming the POTUS has become the cool thing to do. Like they are part of some beatnik sub-culture that is in the know.
That's just my opinion. I could be wrong. . .

Whats the problem with being a malcontent....This country was founded by malcontents....

The problem is that people just love to bitch and complain while offering no solid solutions. Don't you listen to people at work all day bitching about their lives and their job...God, it makes me insane! They don't know how good they've got it. Constant whining and crying over nothing...I want to fucking strangle them! Nothing's ever good enough. I'm not sure it's just the human condition to complain, or that we are a nation of lazy, complacent fucks who feel they're entitled to anything and everything without actually earning anything. How many people have you heard bitch about their raise, or lack thereof? Then when you think about it, what have they actually contributed? What difference have they made? I work with a guy who actually feels he's entitled to more because he makes the idiotic choice of driving 110 miles each way, yet he contributes as little as possible. That commute is his own stupidity and his CHOICE, what gives him the right to complain about it? That's just one example and the workplace is a microcosm for the what I feel is the mindset of the majority. People love to fucking complain. Take a look around the world and get your fucking perspective straightened out! Nobody owes you anything and you can't get something for nothing!
