I can't figure out why my mixes go wrong

Hey guys,

There's something that always goes wrong with my mixes and I can't quite put my finger on it. I think it might be the drums. For some reason I'm never happy with my drum sound.

I just improvised over a basic drum beat to practice mixing, but I'm not quite happy with how it sounds. Maybe I'm trying to be too optimistic. Anyway, I'd appreciate some feedback.

cymbals could be a little bit wider, maybe some more verb on the drums and guitar could come up in the mix, also add some mid to the guitar tone

is that ezdrummer? if it is, i'd say go Superior, for the guitar, i'd add some sort of reverb or (more) chorus 'cause maybe it's sounding close to a DI signal to me... and for this particular "slow-playing", i'd recommend slight pitch correction on the DI's... i'd do that... or play each note and automate... well... you get the idea.
