I don't like Metallica.

I, for one, have gotten over the "I still can't believe they have changed this much" rant, because there's absolutely nothing you can do about it anyway. The metal masters have fallen a long time ago, get over it. Just appreciate what they have done in the past and leave it at that and don't expect anything from them anymore. I just listen to other bands, and when I feel nostalgic, I just pull out one of their first five cds and crank up the volume.

Faves:
Fade to Black
The Call of Ktulu
Master of Puppets
Disposable Heroes
Blackened
Through the Never

As most of you, I liked Kill'em all to ...and Justice for all. There are a -few- OK songs after that.

Faves:
Hit the Lights
Master of Puppets
Fade to Black
Seek and Destroy
...and Justice for all

One cause for this non-ending discussion my be that some guys don't get tired of listening to Metallica, and everytime they do, they wonder about how a band could change that drastically.
But that's just my 2 cents... ;)

Whenever I listen to the earlier stuff I wonder the same exact thing. How could they go from writing brilliant music that was Heavy as hell to what they are doing today ? The change is something I don´t accept but nor do I sit and complain constantly since as was earlier stated there are PLENTY of bands out there who kick ass. OVERKILL comes to mind.

Because they aren´t the same 18 years old guys who wrote Seek And Destroy or Fight Fire With Fire. Simply that.
When you´ll be 40 years old, let´s see what are you will be listening to.....

I disagree. It really depends on the person and their personality. Some people mellow out with age, others don't. Just look at Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy from Motorhead, Tom Araya from Slayer etc...They are just as heavy as they were in their 20's and I totally respect that

I am not saying you cannot be open to other styles of music, but I appreciate their commitment to heavy metal and the fact they don't pull 180s on their fans. I have been a metal head for half my life and I highly doubt that will change. Steven Tyler once said: "I will rock till I drop" and to me, that's the spirit.

I see what you are saying. There are things that change when people get older but I know a lot of Metal musicians who are still playing kick ass Heavy Metal. Look at RAVEN, UDO, ANVIL, OVERKILL, MANILLA ROAD, GRAVE DIGGER, JAG PANZER.. etc... They are "older" but still keep to their Metal roots unlike METALLICA. Of course this is a total waste of time to debate about since it´s been debated over for many times with no real solution. You either like METALLICA TODAY or you don´t. And I don´t.

I agree.

Hmm well you may be right, but I'm not sure Steven Tyler's a good example - he hasn't exactly been 'rockin' in a while
????
Do you mean:
a) you don't think he has done much lately
b) he has changed, musically

a)
Aerosmith released "Just Push Play" in March of 2001 and they are *currently* doing a tour promoting their album. They were in Japan in the beginning of February 2002. They have been nominated in seven categories for this year's Boston Music Awards, which will be held in April. Haven't you heard the song "Jaded"? It got regular airplay not so long ago, and they released another video after this one - I forget the title.

b)
If you listen to a few tracks off their latest album - especially "Jaded", you will realise that they pretty much stayed true to their roots - they still play hard rock. The album "Just Push Play" just sounds like good old Aerosmith to me. If you tell me "Well, they include other styles of music in their songs" - well they've always done that :p That is how they are and they stick with it. "Walk this way" rings a bell? Even though I am not a fan, as I am into much heavier stuff *hint*CoB*hint*, I admire Steven Tyler because he is committed to rock n' roll - "a la Aerosmith" style - something he has always done and seems like he wants to keep on doing.

Aerosmith is alright, well, when I first listened to them anyhow. However, I have changed my view on them by now. But that's alright...

Oh, and a major reason for why Metallica has changed: Cliff died in 1986...
You have said it all.

I've just never been a huge Steven Tyler fan, that's all I meant.. but I get your point and its cool

why wont aerosmith just dissapear along with kiss and the rolling stones? joey kramer should have died when his farari exploded in marshfield (a town near my house). why? because aerosmith are making asses of themselves. they should take a year off and take a look at what theyre doing. "what are we doing?", "i dont know"

metallica didnt die with cliff. i think theyd be pretty much in the same boat even if he was still alive, they'd just be more melodic....or even quit by now
