Dudes.. I am on such a string of good luck lately. Tomorrow I am leaving on tour to do monitors for OK GO!
You know the fucking treadmill video band
Yeah I know, not really the style you guys really care for but I'm goin' out!
As far as to how I got the job, I had been to the studio several times with a band I do a lot of live sound and design work, ofHuman. Talked with the chief engineer a lot about recording while I was there over a course of a few weeks.
I did a show a few weeks ago with a semi national band, Bobaflex. Their guitarist sent me a voicemail when I was in a basement session thanking me, saying that it was the best monitor mix they had ever had at the venue. and I said something to him about recording. Bobaflex does a lot of recording at Sonic Lounge. By chance I ran in the guitar player the next day at a Halloween shop. He told me that Joe (chief engineer at Sonic Lounge) was looking for additional engineers. He hooked us up, and Joe told me he was actually considering asking me before Bobaflex dude called him.
When I met Joe he said my reputation as an engineer was a huge factor in him asking me to work there, and that all of my clients and bands that I had worked with spoke very highly of me. He is getting older and wants to spend more time with his kids and is tired of working at the studio 10-12 hours a day, every day.
Another reason is I have access to a client base through my live engineering. His other engineers do not actively pursue clients, at all, and he thinks it is losing him money.
That's pretty much it. BEST FUCKING WEEK EVER
