'allo...

The most important bits... he's now engaged... and... the two CD plan is no longer an idea, no longer a rumor, but a reality that will happen, with the tentative studio date this spring.

He also said he does NOT want to make Blackwater Park II, and they are at the stage now where he wants to 'risk' (his word) his fanbase and make sure the band does something different... my interpretation of that is we're in for a change in scope like Morningrise->MAYH was... and both happened after the band had actually toured a lot, hmmm...

Anyway, the full interview went about 50 minutes, and will run in LotFP Weekly for the week of January 28... if you get a 4 issue subscription between now and 1/25, you'll be sure to receive this issue...

Check out the website for past interviews with Akerfeldt, and order if you'd like...

Cool - always good to get up-to-date info.

Is the whole "risk" thing a carrot to get us so curious as to hang on the edge of our seats waiting? If so - it'll work.:)

Great stuff. You've gotten the best interviews outta Akerfeldt. I enjoyed reading the one after MAYH.

I've got 1000 posts. :p  :) :( :D  :loco: :tickled: :heh: :loco: :)

Congrats, Wolff! I'll be there soon, and I expect a party! :loco:

Wow, Jim, very fascinating stuff. Congrats to his fiance, I think her name is Anna? It no longer matters if we make fun of his 'stache now, he's settled. :D

I hope, hope, hope, hope, hope, hope they don't get wimpy and lose that amazing mix of beauty AND aggression. It seems that's the forward-moving trend in metal. I'm slightly worried by those comments. He didn't give you any more information about the direction? How about a change back to MAYH? :p

Oh my god, I will have a stomach full of vomiting butterflies until I hear these albums :hotjump:

Well I think you'll just have to trust Mikeal, and the rest of the band, I know I do. I'm sure that whatever they come out with will be good. I know I'm going to be the first person waiting in line for it :)… and this time I'll bring my bullet

I agree, Jim is quite studly, hehe.

I was extremely pleased to hear about the "new direction" thing and it doesn't scare me or anything cuz I think that opeth are simply too fucking cool and have too much integrity to sell-out (shudder). [However, if they did, I think I would just give up on music and turn to porn, a life of pointless crime, selling Cher memoribelia, beastiality, or whatever offends you the most, haha.] I also thought it was cool to hear that he is engaged, and I hope it brings him health and happiness and helps give him the drive and energy to keep on making music for many many many years to come. I don't think we've seen the best from Mikael yet, I think in the future he will blow our fucking minds even more than he has already, which is saying quite a lot, hehe.

salute,

Satori

and for the first time this year i get that genuine happy feeling :)
thanks!

very excited

very very excited

i can tell you i'm excited, even though akerfeldt left us with some uncertainty. i think that the new direction might just mean that they will just delve into music deeper and come up with some crazy stuff. its no mystery that opeth is known for writing albums without effort, i think he's just saying that they are going to push themseves. i mean look at what they accomplished in only two practice sessions, we got still life out of such short rehearsal, and blackwater park out of only three. there's no doubt that music comes very easily to those guys, now just imagine if they really pushed their current abilities...*drools at the thought*

Alright! It's about time we got some positive news on the Opeth forum about Opeth. Yeeeeeahhhh!
Thank ya.
[I didn't know Mike was engaged, right on;)]
