I need a new guitar

Well, I suggest you check out some Jacksons... I don't know exactly what the Canadian dollar is worth right now (apart from that it's not doing well ;) ).

But I think with that kind of money you should be able to buy a decent import Jackson.
And with decent I mean: JAPANESE MADE!
Don't get one of those Indian made ones.

I have two Japanese Jacksons, a KVX10 and a DKMGT, both guitars feel awesome and sound great.
Although I swapped the pickups on both of them to real Seymour Duncans after a while... ;)

Look for anythin Japanese made or American made. Japanese Jacksons and Ibanezes and Carvins are the best deals out there IMHO. I've got an Ibanez RG520QS which is like the RG-570 but with no middle pup, a mahogany body and a quilt top. The new prestige series of Ibanez will play nicer than anything else you'l find out there. If you're willing to get a used instrument look for US or Japanese made BC Rich, ESP, and Jackson, both are top-notch quality

Try and avoid Korean made guitars for the most part, LTD Deluxe (the 1000 series), the nicer Schecters, Brian Moore, and Agile are the exceptions but you likely wont be able to get as low and fast an action as most of the Japanese and US build guitars. The Schecter C1 Classic looks a bit gaudy for my tastes, but it happens to be the best sounding guitar I've ever played, and that includes custom shop BC Richs, Jacksons, and PRS.

Fender makes some nice axes these days too, if you like the looks. New this year is a mexican made showmaster with 24 frets, two humbuckers, binding on the neck and body, carved top, set neck, and it's all black. Looks mighty fine to me, it's just got that Fender headstock. But hey, if Nile can deal with it....

A warning tho, Duncan Designed and most other stock pickups (esp Ibanez) suck a fatty. I've got EMG's in my RG, a 60 in the neck and an 81 in the bridge. Duncans and DiMarzio's also both rule, your choice just depends on how you want your tone.

Oh yeah, I forgot the most important point:

You should try out a guitar before you buy it. And you should also try out all the other guitars before you decide to actually buy it.

Everybody has his own preferences, so you might actually like the thicker ESP necks better than the Jackson necks (while for me it's just the other way round).

yea, go for japanese made ibanez's or jacksons.

i like ibanez's better...i have an rg570, it's a very good guitar. stock pickups kinda suck so you'd eventually want to replace them.

the schecter c series is great...the c-1 classic is beautiful and sounds amazing. I love mine! The biggest difference in the classic from the next one down (besides the amazing..ok a bit "gaudy" inlay) is the pickups. Duncan JB in the bridge and Jazz in the neck, none of the "designed stuff". You will find that problem in any guitar in your price range as the pickups will just generally suck. The schecters are heavy and not really meant for speed, in my opinion they play more like a PRS then anything else. I'm still trying to find the catch in that guitar...like how it can be priced so low...

So i'd definitly look at those as I find the quality to be a lot higher then the LTD's in that range (except, like said above the 1000 series), but they have similar playability with fatter necks and a chunkier sound. Those LTD deluxe's have dropped very low in price as well...

If you want speed then try an Ibanez RG series, higher the better, or a nice jackson like DKMG and up. Soloists are great as are the higher end randy rhoads V's. USA jacksons are probably getting our of your price range though, but a DKMG should be within it.

It's been said but just make sure you play it first, online places can get you decent deals but you HAVE to play it first. I ended up with my C-1 classic from guitar center (and I HATE guitar center) because I played it and loved it and then got a better deal then I could online. Never leave out GC btw, those guys are so desperate to make sales you can get away with murder. I've got them down to COST on some stuff.

canadian dollar was doing bad, lately it has been kicking fuckin ass
800$ cad is now as much as around 600 US if not more

Well I'm going for a Jackson soon with that pricerange... but from what I have played today... I have to say that the PRS is the sweetest sounding, easiest playing and best looking guitar I've yet to see.

What ever you do dont get a BC Rich. I have a NJ Series Warlock and it is fucking shit!

Warlocks are shit anyway .... have you ever played a more expensive B.C Rich ????... go out and try some others and then come and tell me if B.C Rich guitars are shit..

Would it be right for me to buy Gibson's shittiest guitar and then come on here telling people not to buy Gibson because they are crap..... ?
