I need some pointers

So most everyone here seems to more or less focus on a high-production value home recording. Well I've got a friends band and they want to sound something along these lines (production quality-wise):

I need that warmer, old school, cassette tape sound.

I currently am working with Addictive Drums, and/or Steven Slate. I have a Line 6 UX1, or a real amp with a Shure SM57 to mic it up.

I'm assuming its mostly mixing, but any and all pointers would be awesome.

I recorded a Grindcore band once that kept asking me to make the mix sound more "raw" long after the tracking had finished but they would never make an attempt at explaining to me what that might possibly sound like. I finally slipped into my mastering chain the SLIGHTEST amount of broadband distortion that blanketed the whole mix. So slight that you couldn't tell it was there. They loved it! To them, that was raw. Just a little trick that may add to the ambience of what you track.
