I play drums when i have time(video)

Maybe its a stupid question but..
why a compressor before drumagog?
and what settings?
im saving to buy a set of triggers so im curious about the use and processing

Where do you usually place the triggers?

You and joey are REALLY making me want to buy the pod farm plugin

That could be to turn the kick or whatever more consistent to trigger better

Sounds great, looks great.

I think I wear the same socks while playing drums, but I still suck. I just don't understand!

Yeah, if you compress the signal before it reaches the trigger, it will trigger more evenly but also defeating the purpose of triggering a drumset. I'm definately not saying it's a bad thing, I do this myself too just to keep the signal "at bay" so the triggering doesn't get too whacky, but if you compress it too much you might as well just program the kick yourself :) But yea, you would have to smash the signal preeeeeeetty damn hard to go that overkill.

yup this is what i do it for. I dont see how it defeats the purpose of triggering the drums though. I do all the velocity stuff by hand as to make sure the rolls and build ups sound natural. The only difference between programming and triggering is the natural overheads, and that's a pretty big difference if you ask me.
You also have the option of mic'ing the snare and blending it with the trigger sample too, just to change things up from time to time

well, now that i've cleaned my jaw off the floor, i just have one question;

how do you minimise bleed from the kit in the OHs?

say you needed to move a hit, how would you get rid of that ghosting?

fucking amazing drums there.

thanks,

i just put a limiter on the OH track to kill the snare, then put a high pass at around 600hz. That's all i usually need

Fuck man... you are incredibly tight and your timing, especially on those fills, is insane! Definitely a shame that you're not in a band anymore - one less amazing drummer out there!

Have you thought about offering session drumming as one of your services? I think you could make a killing, especially with the DFHS/Slate-programming crowd!

+1, I have some stuff I'm working on that I would gladly pay you to play on, originally I was going to program the drums in SSD and record the cymbals separately myself but having a real drummer do it would be much preferred, even if it is all sample replaced at the end of the day!

I'm down dude. Hit me up with a PM if you'd like to discuss this further:)

I dont see how it defeats the purpose of triggering the drums though.

Well, if you compress the signal to the point where every hit is basically the same velocity, you defeat the purpose of triggers since they don't just capture your performance, they also capture the dynamics in your performance.

I do all the velocity stuff by hand as to make sure the rolls and build ups sound natural.

Now, as for this, I have no clue what you're talking about. But I'm sure it's all good! :D
