I scored a metal zone for $35.

i also scored one once for $35...but now all the knobs are broken off

a "friend" of mine told me he found it in his driveway all fucked up...this seemed plausible, as i'd been hauling my gear to/from his place, and figured i must've dropped it next to the car and it ended up under a tire

turns out he was just pissed off at me over some shit, and was too big of a pussy to confront me...so he broke the knobs off of the pedal instead. i looked into replacing them, but boss wanted $80+, so i said fuck it and got a tubescreamer instead

Dude that suck. Did you kill him? I would.

This things sucks as a boost (as I suspected), but actually it's not horrible as a distortion unit. I thought it was going to be like that dod death metal pedal my friend had back in the day (no ajustable gain :hypno:) just dimed fuzzy gain. But actually this thing doesn't have as much gain as I expected the biggest downside is the NOISE!

I may throw a Monte Allums mod inside since it did wonders for my DS-1 and it's cheap.

i will if i come across him again. he moved from CA to OR, then called here trying to start a bunch of shit between me and my wife...it was after he moved that he told her he broke my shit on purpose. he's definitely on my "punch on sight" list.

Heh. We did the FOH at a charity event with preteens playing metal covers a while back, and thought we'd be nice and bring my friend's 5150 halfstack 'cause we kinda figured their equipment would turn out to be a major problem. I felt like crying and whipping ass at the same time when this kid demanded to use his MetalZone with 5150's "clean" channel. Whoop.

Dudes ... first I never wanted to tell anybody, because it's kind of embarrassing to me, too - because it's my band. But on the other hand that story is just tooooo good to keep it to myself :D

One day the other guitar player in my band came into rehearsal with that Boss Metalcore-Pedal.
I was like "Dude, what the fuck do you think you're doing with that thing?"
He replied "Yeah Duuuude, my rectifier has not enough balls, y'know. I want BAAAAALLS."
Me: o_O "Are you serious?"

So he switched into the clean-channel, put that thing in front of his amp and took his guitar.
I was like: "Dude, don't do that or I'm going to kick your butt ... right here, right now!"

Well, it seems that I wasn't convincing enough, so he turned up the volume-pot on his guitar and played some riffs. It was the most evil distortion-sound I've ever heard. It was loud, sharp and had balls. It had the huuuuuuugest balls I've ever heard.
Downside of it: It sounded like pure shit! :D

It was like that big, mean motherfucker in school (there is one in every school, right?). Everyone was struck in awe when he walked by and respect was not something he had to fight for. But as he also was the ugliest blob on earth he never got the prom queen :D

I think he kept it to play it at home, but he never dared to bring it to rehearsal again *haha*

I did an album with a guitar player who insisted on using any amp on clean with a metal zone in the front end!! I brought him JSXs and 5150s but he refused to do anything other than put em on clean and use the metal zone. Needless to say the album is credited to Alan Smithy and the guitar tone was utter shite!!!
The metal Zone IMHO is one of the biggest peices of shit you can ever waste your money on.

I'm surprised about the boost. I've heard quite a few DM players say they're a great boost because of the amount of level boost and the 4-band parametric. Go figure.

I know Kirk and Steve from Crowbar use em as boost pedals in their Randel heads but I know they would never actually use em as distortion

I got one many many years back when I first stared playing. They're a huge improvement when you want to play metal and only have a crappy amp that will barely even pull off any sort of distorted sound. I still use it once in awhile with my micro Marshall. That can be fun and kinda loud when you want to play while traveling.
