...at the emo sound guy in Bath (UK). He's the only guy ever who decided it would be a good idea to mic my combo up 3 ft away from the speaker????
Is it the norm to do this shit? I always have my it sm57'd a few cm's away both for recording and live, so i wonder what the hell this guy was trying to do to me!?

Needless to say i changed it after the 1st soundcheck without him knowing, as it managed to take away all the punch and clarity from my tone, and turn it into a muddy wreck! Maybe would have made slightly more sense if it was putting more power out than the measly amount this combo does :err:

Micing that way is never a good idea on stage, regardless of how powerful a player's amp may be. Either he was trying to smooth out a tone he found overly trebly and brittle or he just didn't know what he was doing. The amount of bleed from other instruments at that point would be pretty severe, I think.

What's worse - your situation or trying to convince the house sound guy that you'd really he rather put the D-112 on the kick drum and the 57 on your guitar cab?

He says the 112 picks up too much low end for the drums.

I told him to take a break and I'd run sound from the fucking stage if I had to.

Count yourself lucky. I did a gig once where I was 'going stereo' and using two 4x12 cabs. Where did the sound man put the mic? Yep.....right between the cabs absolutely nowhere even remotely near a speaker. :yell: He was only a youngster, bless.....:tickled:
