Guitar.
We weren't called meatpounders, we were called Such is Life, which I used to think was a cool name until I found out it's been used about 9 million times. I just came up with meatpounders so I'd have something to name the page...turns out it makes it the artist name or whatever, and they already had 3 or 4 Such is Life's.
Anyway, All of this stuff was recorded before the singer and I knew anything about Opeth at all. I guess you could say that Opeth has really changed my way of thinking, cause I really don't care for these songs anymore...It's probably that mixed in with the fact that we played these same 5 songs (plus like two others, and maybe the occasional cover) for almost 2 years worth of gigs...like Opeth, we had a hard time getting rehearsals together. Plus they were recorded about 2 and a half years ago.
These were definetly fun times though, and I really miss playing with those guys, these songs were just like the beginning...we were starting to write crazy shit before I moved away. This was like over a year ago...
Those first four songs are not mixed, if you notice. They are the straight tracks balanced with zero compression. (We spent 12 hours trying to record and mix 4 songs, a definite no-no. ) We ran out of time before we could mix anything...which is a shame because this was a really professional studio that charged like $100 dollars an hour or something. They had like three boards, two digi, one analog, and a big ol' one and a half inch tape thingy. Sweet shit.
Mistaken was recorded at ARS studio in Orlando. We spent ten hours recording and mixing it and we only paid for 5. Needless to say Sam (the owner) was really cool. I got to use a Peavey 5150 head instead of my trusty Fender Roc Pro 1000 combo...the 5150 blew my shit out of the water!!!
So yeah, if anyone lives in the Golden Triangle area of Mississippi, (yeah, right...) I'll start a band with you if you're serious and you don't suck...
