i have to be honest... i spend a lot of time with different musicians and bands etc. i really don't get this????
it's not "good" ...at all. (by any subjectivity). i'm not that surprised that it's popular but i think now it's becoming more popular just because of how awful it is.
is that just completely obvious or am i losing my ability to judge/critique music accurately?

Just so you guys know, this song isn't popular in the same sense say, lady gaga is. It's an popular because it's hilariously bad and the internet decided it was worth laughing at.

i work in audio syndication... i am actually an account manager for emi/warner/ingrooves/hudson/umg/sony/101distribution... etc.
this song has more downloads in a month than our usual emi quarterly royalty reports (which is massive numbers).
it's a fad (obviously)... but if it's just chosen to be laughed at why are people LISTENING to it?
we can face facts that people actually like this.

gosh I just watched this one, and I was saying to myself "ok at least she knows her celebrity also comes from how she's being bashed and she accepts it in a mature way" and then comes "oh i'm in love with justin bieber, it just gives me butterflies".

Well, even though she can deal with the insults in a mature way, she still is a teenage girl with a taste for mediocre generic pop music, so no wonder she gets al moist about Bieber.
And no, she is not the worst singer in the world, but the song is utter shite and she has absolutely no character/persona/charisma in the video, which makes things worse. I feel kinda bad for her. Nice parenting also, making your daughter the laughing stock of the interwebs...

I don't gree on one point : she has a charisma, let's say an anticharisma, by looking like the 13yo smiling innocent cheesy girl she is. That's why people laugh at this, and why she's gonna earn $10M out of this song.
