Ihsahn - angL

The harsh vocals took a bit of getting used to and the songs don't really have any unique things about them, kind of sound like one big long song. Good album none the less.

Harsh vocals is what Ihsahn is all about! The singing on the last record was what was hard to get into. But anyway.... So far the 2nd best metal album of the year!!! Maybe the new Enslaved will challenge that though.

Hail Ihsahn

I don't really know... I think the best albums of the year so far have been Watershed, obZen, angL, and Lost to the Living.

Great album. I've had it for about a week. 8/10. I'm not particularly fond of the first song. Unhealer is amazing, as well as most of the album. First Ihsahn album I've heard, and was pleasantly surprised at how much of a progressive sound it has.

Thumbs up!!

Great album yes, but I don't think anything tops The Pain is Still Mine. Unhealer with Mike is by far my favourite song, followwed by Monolith. I'm anticipating further releases from Ihsahn. I was never a huge Emperor fan, but this man's going beyond the boundaries.

All respect to an excellent musician, but underrated, Angl is overrated. Just like all Emperors work, which may be influential, but influential does not mean good. Enslaved has trumped anything that Ishan or Emperor ever did. Hey, that's just my opinion.

I do like all 4 Emperor albums, but I personally prefer Enslaved. But it's a pretty unfair comparison 4 albums vs 10. But my favorite Emperor would probably be Anthems, and my favorite Enslaved would probably be Monumension, so out of those two favorites I'd prefer Enslaved. While on comparisons atm I'd say Vertebrae>>>Angl tbh.

how the hell is angl overrated? do you know what overrated means?

relax skippy, did you understand my post? I stated that it's just me, my fuckin' opinion. If you look at Enslaved's output and then at Emperors, well, In MY fuckin' opinion, I heartily choose Enslaved. I own "IN the Nightside Eclipse" and it's an excellent album except for Isahn's vocals. He sounds like some little demonic troll. Just was never all that impressed. And yes, throughout the metal community they are overrated. Meaning, they're really not that good. But, apparently connected with some who, live in mommy's basement, eat six day old pizza, light candles with filthy hands, refuse to bathe and have hair so dirty that the bugs don't want any part of it. I guess someone will try and crush me with their pre- meditated response. On my order, unleash Hell.:heh:

In all honesty I have never heard anyone say that Emperor are overrated. I genuinly enjoy their music and Anthems is one of my favorite BM albums. I have always wanted to get some old Enslaved albums, but I have never seen any at the record stores that I go to. I've listened to a little bit of their old stuff and it sounds to me like good ol' BM, but I remember listening to Isa a while ago and not being very impressed with it.

Oh and to comment on the thread I do like angL and I think Ihsahn is a great musician.

Not being impressed by Isa seams hard for me to understand. I could understand if it just isn't your style/type of music, but not impressed..?

Comparing the two e-bands prolly not a good idea! Apples and oranges I say. In The Nightside Eclipse is possibly one of the first black metal albums I ever heard, and I've been listening to Enslaved religiously for a long long time..

But Angl.. well.. hmmm. When Prometheus came out, i was so blown away buy it. My obsession with that album was just bizarre.

But since then, peccatum and ihsahn have only managed to mildly interest me.

Angl is good. But that's all.

There's just something CHEESY about his Ihsahn albums that wasn't there on Prometheus. Nonetheless, i'm gonna give it a listen now.

All due respect to Ishan and Emperor. I really didn't mean to draw a comparison between the 2. I should have worded my post better. Imo, (that's all) If you listen to the enslaved/emperor split, for me Enslaved are just a better band, meaning personally, I was more impressed with Enslaved. And if you look at the discography of both bands, once again, imo, Enslaved is more complete in both musical evolution and composition. I own everything from "Hordanes Land" to "Runn" and will be getting "Vertebrae" when I can. For me, Enslaved are one of the best bands in all of metal. Being that both bands emerged at roughly the same time, that is the reason for my unintentional comparison.

Hey man, that's fine and i agree with everything you say there, absolutely. And I also own Enslaved from Hordanes Land to Ruun, And Yggdrasill... I want Nema though. >.< But you're right, they both start with E, and started at the same time, and shared their first EP's on a split, and when IX Equilibrium and Blodhemn came out, they were also compared by some.

And actually, when i initially got into emperor, i always wondered who this other E band was! So tbh I kinda take that back!

It's all subjective. I don't mean to offend anyone. Really, does it matter to anyone here, that I'm not that impressed with Emperor. Of course not, my musical opinions are not important to anyone but me. But, when I offer an opinion, I will always try and substantiate said opinion. I have an ear for talent, and Emperor are very talented musicians. For some reason, I never connected with their BM style, except I do like ITNE, for it's a cornerstone album in the second wave of BM. Once again, an opinion, Prometheus-just made me angry every time I listened to it, I'm not sure why it just annoyed the fuck out of me. It appeared they were trying to out do each other. A wank-fest. Listen to this great riff, listen to this great fill. I need more emotion in my music.
