Ihsahn: Behind the Scenes - Jens Bogren Studio

a bit Off-topic, but can someone explain why the MM27 has the 2 subwoofers on the side of the Cabinet? Seems strange to me. Searched the barefoot site but they only said that it is "groundbreaking".
regards,
jan

I overread that.Just checked their site again. Thanks ermz. But i still find it odd that the speakers are directed away from one.
But i think Barefoot might have put a little thought into this and it most probably is a good way to position those speakers, no doubt about that :D
Just curoius what the benefits are.

I think Thomas has put a fair amount more into speaker and physics research than any of us here can speculate on. If he thinks bass drivers connected back to back, facing away from each other sound best, I'm not going to argue. CLA recently bought a pair.

Granted my monitors are of a more traditional design and still manage to touch down to 35hz. Unfortunately there is slight porting. Probably the biggest drawback of the Opals.

i hung out at Fascination Street for a few days with Opeth back during the Ghost Reveries session... and it was a totally different facility, built into a large red building that looked like it began life as a barn. it was quite large. i guess Jens scaled back and built a more affordable place. i did wonder how he was able to float the other facility, which looked as though it had been there for years. i actually recorded Martin Lopez at that bigger place during that trip, in the same live room as used for GR, but i was in the B room, where i also recorded the rest of the band (in the B booth for Mike's vox of course)... i have footage of it that will be on a bonus DVD. Jens was very cool and loaned me the use of the B control room, free of charge. couldn't have asked for a nicer host.

what project was the martin lopez recording for? If you can even say.

Yep, the subs move in phase, in opposed directions canceling out any cabinet vibrations. Keeps the cabinet and anything it's touching from essentially becoming a speaker as well. Also I imagine it's just efficient use of space.

I'm pretty sure the reason for having two woofers back to back is to stop any net vibration of the cabinet as every vibration from one woofer is balanced by the other. The waves they generate are in perfect opposing polarity from the perspective of the speaker itself.

So fucking cool - Dave, if you touch the cabinet, is there really zero vibration?
