Ihsahn: Behind the Scenes - Jens Bogren Studio

FUCK, this is sounding great.

the studio seems to be smaller than i imagined....but there's obviously a lot of absolutely high class stuff in there, not to mention the man himself - i loved his work with katatonia and opeth.

i'm definitely going to buy this cd. anyone know about the release date??
btw, angl was really cool musically, too. the mix was rather bland, though....

i wonder if there's still programmed drums being used on this one?

btw, can anyone spot some settings on the ssl gcomp? especially ratio and the meter.
seems as if he's dropped the real SSL console in favor of the waves stuff?

Ihsahn's never programmed drums - they were just horribly dry and sterile sounding on the previous albums. Asgeir Mickelson played on them, and plays on this one as well.

If you watch the other two vids in the series you'll see him tracking. He does the kicks seperately it seems

really? i was under the impression that angl hat programmed drums....sure sounds that way too, lol.
well, thanks for clearing that up! :)

I'm curious to hear about more people comparing MM27s to Opals (or maybe the MM35s, given the closer price bracket). I know one guy on GS who preferred the Opals for mixing, even though the MM27s apparently had more extension, and tighter lows. The two are impossible to compare here in Oz because Barefoot stock is almost non-existent. They are back-ordered for several months at a time.

I would love to hear those barefoots to!! But they are not cheap so if i would go for a new pair of monitors in the highend section i would probably try the K+M 0300, itsa half the price and is said to be as good as the barefoots

Or maybe he's muffled the kicks and just records a trigger track.
Seems like he used trigger pads instead of real kicks on aNGL. Pretty good idea I guess, if you're just going to sample-replace the kick anyway.

I did this in a couple of albums, and many people does it...all real except for the kick. You can handle kicks as midi notes and quantize them very easily, add, delete...
