I'm gonna jump out of a plane next year.

I've always wanted to. I had a chance to do it with my cousins in Phoenix about 10 years ago but my mom freaked at the last minute and decided not to let me do it.
Haha.. I actually went 10 years ago and didn't tell my mom until afterwards.. Then she freaked out, hehe!
I had what was called a static line attached to the parachute bag, the other end of the line was attached to the plane so it opened automatically after about 5 seconds.

When it was my turn, I had a hysteria fit and thought my friends' parachutes had not opened because I couldn't see them below from the plane. But the instructor urged me... we had to climb to a ehh..plank above the wheels and get to a bar of the wing to hold on to until the instructor gives you a thumb up and the wind is not helping you to move purposefully!! These 5 seconds were total chaos and I really couldn't go into the jump position... all of a sudden the chute pulled your back ferociously and everything went calm, just a serene whissing sound of air...

When we reached 1500 feet( I think) we were supposed to steer the parachute to the place where we took off. It was a very grand feeling to do that.. just pull a little and you're off many meter to the left!

Damn it's been a decade! I should do it again in the near future.

How does the free fall feel like? I've read it's not like the "rollercoaster drop", which I thought it would be like.. I'm glad it's not, because that always creates this horrioble feeling in my stomach and makes me scream like shit every time I ride a rollercoaster.. lol

It's kinda like jumping off a diving platform, just waaaay more windy. ;)

You obviously accelerate really fast but after a few seconds you reach terminal velocity at approx. 120 mph/200 km/h, meaning you won't fall faster than that.

So when you release the chute it's kinda like an emergency break at 120 mph. Not the most pleasant feeling but chances are you'll hardly notice it because the adrenaline is rushing.

Have a good time!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it. I wrote my mom an e-mail about this, but she hasn't answered yet. I think after all, she won't be surprised about any of my stupid plans anymore... haha

I did a tandem jump about two years ago and it's definitely not like a rollercoaster. There was no sensation at all of leaving your stomach behind. It wasn't as incredibly intense as I expected it to be, but was still awesome.

While I would prefer to jump alone, the tandem thing was cool for the first one. You can mostly just enjoy the ride and let the expert worry about the details. I went on a mostly cloudy day and had to wait about 3 hours for some of the clouds to burn off for an opening. We jumped from 10,000 ft and it was really cool falling through the cloud level (which was at about 7,000 ft).
