I guess I'm getting "older" but yeah I recently got more into ambiance and more voice-oriented bands and I fell in love with Katatonia over the last year (and am just discovering earlier albums too). But damn, I am listening to this album again, because it's that good ! Is recent Anathema still that good ? I know more or less their history (starting as a doom/death band and kinda shifting to rock/electro oriented) but other than that I don't know if I found a sweet spot in their discography or if i can expect that kind of gems up to 2012 !

One of my absolute favorite bands, and I think Alternative 4 is probably their best (I did a cover of Lost Control with my band), but I don't think the newer albums have anything to envy the classic ones either, We're Here is a masterpiece start to finish, and Weather systems is from another planet where music is beautiful and moving.

On the Doom/Death side, Pentecost III is a brilliant EP

I am a fan up until Judgement, haven't heard much later stuff. Used to have a night job and listen to Alt 4 on headphones quite a bit in '98 iirc. Also own an Antimatter album, you might like that project if you like Alt 4.

I got in on them when "We're Here Because We're Here" came out, and fell in love immediately.

"Weather Systems" is just mindblowingly beautiful. I listen to it at work all the time, and on long solo car trips. I even turned my 62 year old father onto them :)

Oh yeah Antimatter is even darker than Alt 4, love them, especially planetary confinement and Lights Out, but all are brilliant. Also, Duncan Patterson (ex-bassist, wrote most songs on Alt 4) now has his own band called Alternative 4, but I haven't had the chance to hear it.

Damn, this song is epicly epic

Great stuff, I really need to dig in all of that ! Btw, funny you mention Katatonia and all, because considering I love Katatonia, and apparently Anathema, I'm supposed to like Paradise Lost as well right ? The thing is that I just don't like their singer, and find their music cheesy... Any good paradise lost songs to recommend me ? The ones I find with the simplest youtube search don't talk to me so much

Fuck yeah, I love pretty much all of Anathema's stuff. But for me, Weather Systems was a fucking home-run. Every time I hear Internal Landscapes I get shivers down my spine. Saw them supporting Opeth last month, they played some old stuff and some new stuff, and fucking KILLED it.

I know the guy that joined them, Daniel Cardoso, that guy is a fucking machine at drums!

Cardoso is the drummer for my project. Very nice guy and mixed and edited for me. Very affordable too, 1200 eruo for the whole album. Not the samples on my bandcamp, new recordings im working on. Fucking love Anathema

He's really good on the Head Control System album. Jealousy!!

I saw these guys in Dublin recently. I was completely shocked! The last I had heard of them was their album "Serenades". I don't even know if any of the original members are still with them. Good music and they put on a great show too.

Haha funny thing is they're the same core members since forever, all except the singer/guitarist have left and come back at certain points, but generally it's the same guys, minus the original singer from "serenades" and the first EPs, after he left the guitarist Vincent took to vocals. Then they brought in the drummer's sister to do the female vocals, and recently the keyboardist left and they got Cardoso, he does keyboards with them but they announced for new stuff they would use him for drums as well when his style fits the song/part.

About Paradise Lost, the first time I heard the album "One Second" I thought "what the hell is this gay cheesy crap? Is this supposed to be a legendary band??" And now that's one of my favorite albums, can't stop listening to it. You should start with the song (and album) "Faith Divides us - Death Unites us", that's the one that finally got me into them and now I enjoy all their albums, other killers are Draconian Times and Icon. "Gothic" is a Doom/death masterpiece, but totally different from the rest of their stuff, and unless you like Orgy, stay away from Host, Believe in Nothing and Symbol of Life until you get to like the band.

Never heard of archive.

Star Ark, can't wait to hear your new recordings dude, I'm sure I'll love it!

Never heard of archive.

Give 20mn of your time to this, you will be rewarded :

Enjoy :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna try all that when I'm free from work.
I tried "We're Here Because We're Here" but I just can'g get into this album, I tried up to song 4 or 5 but it sounds so much like a regular pop rock band, the songs just don't talk to me ! Weather system talk to me more once you pass the first two songs, which I have hard time to get as well. Once it starts with the 3rd song, the epic starts again.
