Why is purple the universal colour of salt & vinegar chips?

and usually green is associated with chicken, blue with plain etc

I have always wondered about chicken flavour being associated with the colour green, but never really thought about the others.

BBQ is sometimes orange as well as brown.

It's not in England. Walkers use these colours:

Salt and Vinegar - Green (same with some brand, others use blue)
Prawn Cocktail - Pink
Chicken - Yellowy brown
Cheese and onion - blue (others use green)
BBQ - black
Worcester Sauce - purple
