Impulse vs. Microphone comparison?

I'm really confused as to why i've never heard comparison clips between an impulse, and the setup that was used to make the impulse...Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough?

Wouldn't you just have to make an impulse of a mic set up, record a clip with that setup, and then record another clip using the same preamp with the impulse? Is there something I'm not getting here?

I'm really curious to hear the differences between an impulse and what its actually simulating...

im pretty sure i have seen impulse vs mic comparisons in this forum ...
the mic slays the impulse the 99% of the time

I would bet 100% of the time even, still interested in hearing the difference though...I'll try to use the search function a little better haha
