The first time I tried impulsing a direct amp with Altiverb 6 it sounded great. But when I tried last weekend something wasn't right.
Had a dummy load off a Marshall head, and the fx loop was going into the interface just fine. Thought the direct signal sounded pretty good and have a strong signal into Pro Tools LE.
Now when I inserted Altiverb 6 something seems to have gotten fucked up in the gain staging. The input meter IN altiverb is low, and the volume output is also super low (this is when using GuitarHack impulses). Turning up the input and output knobs in ALtiverb gets a stronger output...but it just doesn't sound right. I don't know if its my ears just got used to how bright the amps DI sounded, but the high end sounded muffled and mp3'ish, like a jump down in quality. Anybody experience this?
